Anika Alam
I am a doctoral candidate studying education policy at the
University of Pennsylvania. I have received the 2024-2025 AERA-NSF
Dissertation Grant for my work leveraging machine learning to
identify students at risk of dropping out of high school.
My research applies machine learning, causal inference, and
economic evaluation methods to better understand policies and
programs that improve education outcomes, especially for children
from households struggling with poverty.
Prior to joining Penn, I completed an M.A. in Education Policy at
Columbia University. Before that, I taught math at DC Public Schools
for 4 years. I hold a B.S. degree in Policy, Analysis, and Management
from Cornell University.
